Why I became a dentist, it goes back to my childhood. I had a tooth coming out of the gum behind my lip. I was maybe eight or nine and we went to this very old dentist and quite painlessly he took my tooth out and allowed the permanent teeth to come in and kind of that made the interest to look at dentistry.
My uncle was a dentist as well and that’s why when the time came I decided to pursue the field of dentistry and I guess that’s the best thing that I have ever did. I enjoy dentistry. Over the years I have taught for 25 years at the University of Southern California which was quite challenging and at the same time rewarding to see people that dentists that are coming to our program as a colleague and now they’re practicing all around Southern California or around the country.
I enjoy dentistry. It’s a field that always challenging and is at the same time quite rewarding as well. Generally what I talk about rewarding is when the satisfaction that you see in the patient’s face and their confidence.
When they come in they are really one of their lowest point in their life. They are uncomfortable, they have pain and in many circumstances they kind of disappointed with themselves even at many times. So by the time you complete treatment you return their confidence and you basically change their life.
They come and tell you, you changed my life and this is one of those situations that you really enjoy at the end of treatment. You will see somebody comes back and they love you.
